Things To Do
We are still quite new to Norfolk ourselves so if you find any place to recommend please let us know. To get you started these are things we and our guests already enjoy...
All Natural Co
30a High St
Very friendly family run wholesomeness. They sell organic ingredients, tea, a few cheeses and a whole load of remedies, supplements and cosmetics including paraben-free hair dyes and suncreams. Eco nappies, wipes and kitchen stuff like paper sandwich bags. Makes you feel healthy just going in.
To get to the Post Office in Sheringham you have to walk through Starlings toy shop, a parents’ trial by pointless plastic objects. But if you are actually looking for toys there is a good selection of mainstream Lego, Playmobil, Sylvanian Families etc and crayons, beach gear and stationery. There is another branch in Holt.
Great to be Green
9 Chapel Yard, Albert St, Holt NR25 6HG (01263 711733)
Old gardening tools, groovy jewellery and quirky bits and pieces all doing their bit for the planet. Ethical and chic, all Fairtrade, British made or vintage.
9b Chapel Yard, Albert St , Holt NR25 6HG (01263 710203)
Loads of bird and wildlife feeders and houses. You could build a whole city for toads, hedgehogs and lacewings and see who moves in. Also sells nature study equipment for conservationists of all ages. Many of the products sold support nature reserves, sustainable woodland and local businesses and the owners are expert birdwatchers who lead tours throughout the year.
A bit Boden, a bit Cath Kidston. Cute, smart children’s things and yummy mummy outfits. Great wellies including ones with ribbons. Such fun. Logo-heavy for those who like to advertise which brand of polo shirt they wear. Some of Joules stuff is sold in a discount shop in Sheringham.
Appleyard (01263 715858)
Small independent bookshop with a large array of very well-chosen stock and welcoming staff who clearly love reading. There are regular author events and occasional story sessions for children. I never leave without buying something….
Loads of fab kitchen gear to turn your kitchen into a lifestyle photo shoot. A lot of it very useful too. You wouldn’t believe how often I use the fish bone tweezers.
Friendly shop selling trendy upmarket baby and young children’s clothing and toys. Family run and created by parents. They also sell eco-wipes and organic baby creams and products are sourced with the environmental impact considered.
Oola Boola, Holt
Vintage, retro, cool label clothing. A treasure trove for groovy girls and adventurous boys. My friend found a wedding outfit so perfect she is house hunting in Norfolk to be closer to this shop.
Mrs Jones, Holt
Clare is lovely and just as smiley to wandering browsers who leave with nothing as to those stocking up on designer clothes, cool ceramics and gorgeous bath oil. It’s hard to resist buying something from this tranquil and friendly shop.
